Backend engineer internship resume example
By the InternLaunch team · Updated
In short
This is a one-page, single-column resume for a computer science undergraduate applying to backend and infrastructure internships. It leads with an internship and two projects, writes every bullet as what was built and what changed, and keeps skills to the tools the candidate actually uses.
An example. Every name, employer and number in it is made up.

Why this resume works
- The internship bullets show results, not duties
- "Built a Go service that batches webhook deliveries, cutting retry traffic by 40%" says what was built, with what, and what changed. A reader can picture the work and ask a good question about it.
- Projects carry the technical depth
- kvlite is a replicated key-value store with leader election and log compaction, benchmarked and written up with its trade-offs. That tells an engineer more about how this person thinks than a list of courses would.
- One project has real users
- Campus Rides was used by 300 students in its first month. Even a small number of real users shows that the candidate shipped something other people depended on.
- Skills are short and grouped
- Two lines: languages, and tools. Everything listed is something the candidate has used in the projects above, so each item can be backed up in an interview.
- Links are where a reader needs them
- GitHub is in the header, and the strongest project links to its repository. A recruiter can go from a line on the page to the code in one click.
How to adapt it
- Replace every detail with your own. The names, employers and numbers in this example are made up, and you should use only what is true for you.
- No internship yet? Move projects above experience, and make sure each has a link and a one-line description.
- Keep one page. If you're adding something, cut something older or weaker.
- Use numbers only when you have them. If you don't, describe what the work does and what you used.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this resume ATS-friendly?
- It uses a single column, standard headings and real text, which parse reliably in most systems. Nobody can promise how a particular applicant tracking system will treat any resume, so focus on clear structure and honest content.
- Can I copy this resume?
- Use it as a structure. The people, companies and numbers are fictional, so write your own content, and only claim what is true.
- How do I use it in the studio?
- Open it in the free resume studio, replace the content with yours, and download a PDF. The page count and margins you see on screen are the ones in the PDF.
